Does MoneyWorks support PST in Canada?
Yes. MoneyWorks supports GST/PST or HST in Canada. Tax rates come pre-loaded for AB, BC, MB, ON, PE, QC and SK. You can of course maintain tax rates yourself.
Does MoneyWorks support new Canadian cheque standards?
Yes.
Does MoneyWorks support US Sales taxes?
Sales tax is a subset of GST/VAT, so MoneyWorks will work for sales tax. If you need to collect sales tax, you will need to set up tax codes yourself for applicable combinations of your city/county/state sales taxes—we don't currently supply localized pre-loaded rates for US localities.
Do you do Payroll?
Sorry, we don't do payroll software.
MoneyWorks has excellent import/exporting facilities for interfacing to third-party payroll software, so you are free to use whichever payroll software for your region that best suits your needs. We are happy to work with any payroll software company to facilitate easy data transfer for you.
In New Zealand, the following payroll packages are known to support MoneyWorks: MacBusiness Payroll, SmoothPay, IMS Payroll.
In Australia, the following payroll packages are known to support MoneyWorks: Payfiles.
In Canada, we are now supplying import settings that will work with an upcoming release of the Canadian version of Checkmark Payroll which should be available in July '07.
Is MoneyWorks networking client-server or peer-to-peer?
Technically it is client-server, however this does not mean that you need a server operating system.
MoneyWorks Gold sharing has a host-guest model. One workstation with a full Gold license acts as the host, and when the user at that workstation has the accounts document open, users at other workstations with client installations of MoneyWorks Gold can log into that document.
MoneyWorks Datacentre sharing is more typically client-server. One workstation or server runs the MoneyWorks Datacentre server software. Any other workstation can log in to any of the documents being served by Datacentre at any time.
What is MoneyWorks written in?
MoneyWorks is a C++ application. It is developed for the native APIs on Mac and Windows (Carbon and Win32, respectively). The database engine is our own and was specifically designed for the performance and reliability requirements of MoneyWorks.
I already have [MYOB/Quickbooks/other] and it [is too slow/can't do the reporting I need/is driving me crazy]. Can MoneyWorks read my data?
For most recent versions of MYOB (incl 'Quickbooks' Mac Canada) we do have a tool that will create a new MoneyWorks document from a snapshot of your MYOB accounts.
We don't currently read Quickbooks files.
Bringing over all of your historical data is generally not possible--mainly because it is not possible to get clean data out of most other systems. In any case, a big reason for moving to MoneyWorks is to get increased flexibility of reporting. This will probably involve restructuring your General Ledger to take advantage of the greater flexibility that MoneyWorks offers.
