MoneyWorks is the ideal back-office solution for your accounting needs. Find out how to integrate MoneyWorks with your own software systems.
MoneyWorks is extensible. This means that developers can add additional functionality using applications such as Visual Basic, FileMaker Pro, MS Office and Access, with MoneyWorks acting as an integrated back-office accounting solution.
This means that you, as a developer, can focus on the special needs of your clients or application. You can 'hook' your software into MoneyWorks to submit or extract accounting information, enhancing functionality for your clients. If you've developed your own application, you'll be able to promote it to a wider audience, resulting in more sales.
On Windows, MoneyWorks supports COM (the technology that underpins OLE Automation and VB). So from another COM compliant application (such as Access, Word, Excel, VB) you can easily extract and submit records to the MoneyWorks internal databases. On Macintosh, MoneyWorks supports AppleEvents. This enables you to write scripts in AppleScript to manipulate data from MoneyWorks, or link MoneyWorks seamlessly to FileMaker Pro, Excel, RealBasic and other applications.
For FileMaker Pro developers, we have prepared three plug-ins (one for Mac OS 9, one for Mac OS X, and one for Windows) that allows seamless integration between Filemaker Pro and MoneyWorks. From your customised FileMaker Pro front end you can extract information directly from MoneyWorks, and also send information (invoices, orders, time sheets etc) directly to MoneyWorks. And, because the Plug-in has the same command set for both Windows and Macintosh, a single FileMaker database can talk to MoneyWorks using the same commands on the two different platforms. The plug-ins work with FileMaker Pro 5, 5.5, 6 and 7.
The plug-ins and a complete FileMaker Pro tutorial that provides a step-by-step introduction to integrating FileMaker and MoneyWorks can be downloaded below. Note that, where separate downloads are provided for Mac and Windows, the resultant files will be the same (they are just compressed differently):
FileMaker Pro 7 Tutorial (350k). This requires MoneyWorks Gold (either the demo or the full version), and FileMaker Pro 7 (either the demo or the full version). Plug-ins for Windows and MacOSX are included, and need to be installed into the "Extensions" folder in the "FileMaker Pro 7" folder.
Macintosh FileMaker Pro Tutorial. (528k) Requires the demo copy of MoneyWorks Gold, and FileMaker Pro 5, 5.5 or 6. The plug-in needs to be installed into the "FileMaker Extensions" folder inside the "FileMaker Pro" folder.
Windows FileMaker Pro Tutorial. (382k) Requires the demo copy of MoneyWorks Gold, and FileMaker Pro 5, 5.5 or 6. You need to place the plug-in in the "System" directory in your "FileMaker Pro" directory.
MoneyWorks also integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Office. To see how to do a mailmerge straight into Word, send your budgets direct from Excel to MoneyWorks, automatically apply interest and more, click here. (requires Office 2000 or later).
Using Visual Basic, you can create applications that communicate directly with MoneyWorks. Although we don't at present have any samples posted, take a look at the VBA script in the MS Office examples above to see what you need to do.
For a sample AppleScript that creates a direct debit file for the National Bank of New Zealand from the highlighted receivables, click here (Mac only). Note that the individual files need to be located in the appropriate folders in the 'MoneyWorks Custom Plug-ins' folder -- you will see this when you download the script. The script is activated from the Command menu in MoneyWorks.
